Great Game Regardless of the Putting Criticism January 6, 2009 Just picked up this game a week ago without having played Tiger Woods 08', but have to admit I was leary of purchasing it due to all the criticism and hysteria around putting.
After playing the game for a couple of hours I fell in love with it. The course selection is superb and the graphics are very good. The game is very intuitive. My 5 year old and wife were playing and enjoying it using the "all play" features.
The putting is a bit trickiy and frustrating at first, but as other reviewers have indicated, once you learn how the meter works it becomes much more user friendly. Making 20 foot putts in real life is an accomplishment and its a challenge in this game as well.
The Online Play is identical to the offline play and can be a great deal of fun playing people you don't know.
I highly recommend the game and its certainly going to help me get through this nasty WI winter until I can get the real clubs out!
Great Game! January 6, 2009 I bought this game for my partner. He is big golfer. He really liked it compared to the golf on wii sports.

This version is an improvement over TW08
- Navigation through the Tiger Challenge is way better - Overall swing is better, especially draw and fade - Online play allows a full round that doesn't take hours to complete - Good new courses
I would disagree with complaints about short game and putting. It took me about 30 minutes to figur out the new putting and now I putt as good as ever. With the short game, as your sklls imporve in the game, yor precision with short shots improves. Just like real golf.
I think EA is getting better with the WII interface and it shows with this verion of TW.
WII Tiger Woods 09 December 29, 2008 Purcahsed the Tiger Woods 09 for the kids(12 & 16) for Christmas and it has been a ball having match play events all over the world. Yes, the putting is not easy to master but it does come with time. Much better than previous versions of this game. As a low handicap golfer what I love is that the swing you need to play the game really does emmulate a real golf swing. Great tempo trainer for me during the long cold winters here in the Northeast. My only real complaint is that it is hard to manage not hitting 100%+ shots all the time. So be prepared to fly over the green many times. Again this too comes with time and practice.
Great Game !!
Are you serious? December 28, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
TW 09 on the Wii could be a phenomenal game without too much work. In it's current form, it's almost unplayable.
I'll spare the good points, all the other reviewers hit on that pretty well. And I'm not jaded by the putting changes between 08 and 09--09 is my first golf game for an avid golfer for the past 15 years.
The problem with this game is the short game. In real golf, the short game--50 yds from the pin and in--is AT LEAST 50% of game. That's right, HALF of golf depends on the short game.
Which begs the question why in TW 09 the short game (including putting) is so attrociously bad. Nearly impossible to hit a reliable short pitch with less than a full swing or any kind of chip that land and roll with any semblance of realism.
And putting, oh my. The putting system can be figured out and made to work if you dig online for enough tips. The putting system is poorly conceived and executed, evidenced by the fact you evidently carry as many as 5 or 6 different putters in your bag. That alone should have disqualified the game as anything worthy of release.
Bottom line, the short game stinks, the putting is terrible, and those things make the game, in it's current form, UNFUN!!
Tiger Woods should be forced to play this game for 100 hours.
